To EAT or not Too eat? Don’t just listen, Get educated.

As you all have heard, breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Why?

1. Eating a healthy breakfast may help promote weight loss. Research shows that by eating breakfast you may consume 20% less calories through out the day.

2. By eating breakfast you may improve your food choices through out the day.

3. Eating a healthy,  well-balanced breakfast will provide your body with the fuel it needs to perform physically and mentally.

Examples of healthy Breakfast choices:

-Eggs

-Whole grain cereals

-Whole wheat toast

-Oatmeal/cream of wheat

-Fruit

Egg Battle

One large egg weighing in at 6.3 grams of protein, 72 calories, and 4.7 grams of fat

Egg white vs Egg yolk.  When most individuals discuss the contents of an egg you may hear the following, “The yolk is terrible for you, I just eat egg whites.”

Let the battle begin. 

Round 1. Protein–              3.6g Whites               2.7g Yolk

Round 2. Fat–                     .05g Whites               4.5g Yolk

Round 3. Calcium–            2.3 mg Whites          21.9 mg Yolk

Round 4. Magnesium–     3.6 mg Whites          .85 mg Yolk

Round 5. Vitamin A–        0 IU Whites              245 IU Yolk

Round 6. Carotenoid–       0 mcg Whites           21 mcg Yolk

Looking at these nutritional facts, we can see some of the difference between the yolk and whites of an egg. The Yolk is the power house of essential nutrients, while the whites account for most of the protein and lean calories.

So eat both!
